Difficulty connecting track segments

Does anyone have any hints to help with connecting track segments?

Have you looked at my entry on the official build diary?  It's towards the bottom of the page.  

It is a bit fiddly, and I did find that there were the odd links that were poorly moulded and wouldn't link properly.  There are enough spares provided so that a few discarded links didn't matter.

i took an exacto knife put a bevel on one side of the end pieces then put it down and hammered  the pins down into it

i broke 2 of plastic axles off  after i already had the wheels installed them on , these are the ones the springs wrap around .

i reglued them with gelled super glue, and set over night, i tried to install them but they just snaped off, any body have this

problem, would appreciate any fixes or suggestions

doing the tracks i have been putting connector pins in both ends so as not to move the tracks around then putting the small pin in the middle and slowly moving on a piece of wood and most times they will go in

 with the small end pin, i have a piece of wood blue tacked to a cutting board and place the pin next to it and get the connecting pins aligned and the lightly hammer them together.
