Stage 17; Fitting the lower control arms.

Recommended Posts

The front suspension! These are some seriously beefy parts! As a side note, I found that I had to lubricate the screws again, so my bar of Irish Spring came in handy. Just a bit scraped off in the threads of the screws, and the screws drove in much more easily.

We start by adding two brackets, one on each control arm. You’ll need 4x FM screws for this step. (steps 1 & 2)

Steps 3 and 4 add the “cylinders” for the shocks, and also use FM type screws.

Steps 5 & 6 are the control arm pivot shafts and are secured using the long KM type screws. These only fit in one way, so pay attention to the L and R markings.

Steps 7 & 8 fit the rods in place that comprise the other ½ of the shocks. These fit into the front part of the chassis and are secured with DM screws.

Steps 9-11 secure the control arms to the chassis, with 4x DM screws. These are a bit tricky to fit into place, and when screwing them on, exercise care to not stab your hand with the screwdriver, as its tough to lay the part on a solid surface.

In steps 12-16, the lower control arms are fit onto the chassis. As a note, I left the wheel off as I did not want to contend with it flopping around and getting in the way. I left the screw and washer in the suspension upright however for safe keeping. The lower control arms were screwed to the chassis cover as indicated without any trouble at all. (Lubricate those screws!)The chassis cover is then screwed to the front chassis with CM screws.

This completes stage 17.
