Pack 2, stage 9, Installing the cylinder heads (steps 1-9)

The first hung we do here is install the “cylinder heads” onto the engine block top cover. I use quotes here because the cylinder heads are more like a representation of the valves and rocker springs. At any rate, you’ll need to make sure that you have the arrow that is cast onto the top of the top cover facing to your left. This will help keep the plastic inserts for the cylinder heads in the right position. Find the left head, and get two EP type screws. The insert is a nice fit into the correct position, and in secured by the two screws.  22.thumb.jpg.439d945f734c06fca10e78036f107e12.jpg

The next part is the lovely valve cover. (Cylinder head cover) This has two posts that fit into sockets on the inset plate. Make sure you have the cover marked with the “L” and screw it into place with 2 more EP screws.  23.thumb.jpg.c095c0b9e1bd190b53646450ed856561.jpg

Now, rinse and repeat for the right side, and you you will have the tip of the engine block assembled, and waiting for the injector unit from previous stages.

Starting with step 10,  (10-13) the exhaust manifolds are placed and screwed on with 2 DM screws. (I have gotta say, I was really impressed by the color of the plastic. It really looks like fresh cast iron, and will be a great base for any weathering you might want to apply!) Start with the field side again, then do the right side.24.thumb.jpg.6267442e6b5fcd2855fa2e9bf25920d8.jpg26.thumb.jpg.4539ae31f84edc48a98f2e312b6e381e.jpg

Step 15 is installing the lower bracket for the upcoming alternator. This is held in place with two FP screws. 27.thumb.jpg.0e8c6ca98d583291185e843f76670c30.jpg

Step 16 is the oil dip stick. This is placed into the hole on the left side of the engine block assembly, above and to the left of the oil filter. (Were I to do it over again, I would position this AFTER I had installed all the spark plug leads through stage 14. It hangs out, and is subject to being bumped easily. I ended up popping mine out, and reinstalling it later. 28.thumb.jpg.c9ab51a2870a409e32d6cdfa6f0ef4a0.jpg

The last small detail is a bit of hose that is placed onto the injector assembly in step 18. The red arrow doesn’t really show the right position, and would seem to indicate that the hose goes into the hole. Thee is a small pin ( and I mean small!) to the lower right of the post with the hole.fit the hose onto this small pin. I used a bit of CA glue to ensure it stayed put. 30.thumb.jpg.fddeddc92dac90edfdd1b787e6d126fe.jpg31.thumb.jpg.723d6ca03251caeafb210bfaf8d4cee4.jpg

This wraps up stage 9!
