Mark's E-Type

Just a quick introductory note.  I started this diary before I started doing the Agora Official Builds.  So I've just moved this diary to the official build section and will continue.  In the words of Magnus Magnusson, "I've started, so I'll finish."

This one was just too much to resist!!  A Mk 1 E-Type soft top!  And Agora's model has proper wire wheels too.  I'm a sucker for wire wheels.  As Oscar Wilde said, I can resist everything except temptation.

If you'll indulge me, here is my MFH Brough Superior with wire wheels.

When it comes to the wheels, I'll give you an in depth guide as to how I make them, and any tips I can find to make the assembly easier.  I do enjoy wire wheels, which probably makes me a bit odd.  But then again, I like assembling Ikea Furniture as well.....

So, on with Pack 1, which is mainly the engine.

Stage 1. The cylinder head.

The oil filler cap fits on one of the cam covers with a screw.

The cam shafts are fitted on the head.

Tenth cam covers are pushed into place.

Finally, the horn push is fitted to the steering wheel.

Stage 2.  The carburettors.

This is a quite straight forward assembly.  Attach the throttle linkage to the inlet manifold with a couple of screws,  then feed the metal shaft through the holes in the linkage.

Stage 3.  Continuing with the carbs.

Again, straight forward.  Add the lower half of the manifold, suction chambers and the air balance pipe.  The resultant assembly looks like this.

Flip the manifold assembly over and add the fuel line.

Finally add the air filter.

Stage 4.  The engine block.

Add the starter motor and distributor.  These are held with screws on the inside.

Now add the inlet manifold and carb assembly.  Again, this is screwed in place.

Stage 5.  The second half of the engine block.

The battery box is screwed into the block.  Watch that you don't trap any wires!

Now fit the oil filter head to the engine black part that was given in stage 4.

Stage 6.  Fan belts, coil and dynamo.

Firstly, assemble the coil and fit this to the head.

Now assemble the fan belt, pulleys and dynamo.  Sorry, it's a lot of steps for one photo, but I was a bit pushed for time when I did this assembly.

This is the pulley side!

Stage 7.  Exhausts and ignition.

The exhaust manifolds are fitted and screwed from the inside.  Make sure the the battery cable leads out neatly too.

Fit the head and pull assembly, then screw the two halves of the block together.  Again, watch that you don't trap the wires!

Now add the spark plug caps and leads.

Fit the lead from the coil into the centre of the distributor, and the plug leads in the remaining holes.

The rev counter connector is a really tiny piece that fits in the end of the cam cover.  Tweezers are your friend!!  It's fiddly!!

This completes pack 1!  Pack 2 will follow shortly.
