Here's a few nice reference books:

Jaguar E-Type: The Definitive History  <- This one has some great original factory drawings, and pretty much everything you'd ever want to know about every variant.

The All-American Hero and Jaguar's Racing E-types: Briggs Cunningham's Le Mans Dream, US Road Racing and the Legendary Jaguar E-type  <- Great period photos of the competition cars from Cunningham, including the prototype E2A.

Original Jaguar E-Type: A Guide to Originality for Owners, Restorers and Enthusiasts <- A good one for folks who like to get into the minutiae of being as original as possible.

I'm sure there are others.  I never mind spending my $$ on good books.
