  1. It is Aintree where in 1955 the British Grand Prix was contested. Moss won, of course! And it has the limited edition number engraved in it. Bonus!
  2. My question has self answered. Wee little number plaques and certificates are in the mail!
  3. I found my W196R in two boxes on the doorstep this morning. No tracking info, but it was [wisely, I think] shipped from the Australian hub in Melbourne. One small issue [maybe I misled my self.] The promo photo on the Agora site has a plaque on the plinth saying that that one is #1 of 500. For the life of me I cannot find such a plaque either on, or with the plinth, nor in any of the boxes I have opened so far. Any comments?

Monaco, 22 May 1955. Print from Fred Pearse photo collection. Car 2 is J M Fangio, who finished first; Car 6 is S Moss, who finished third. As far as I know these cars were slightly different [engine location] and were the special short wheel base open cigar shape bodies intended to give better agility on the tight circurt. First appearance of the W 196 in this form. As the chassis was shorter than in the previous streamliner version, the front brakes had to be moved outside the chassis, they were of necessity smaller that the earlier inboard drums, andprobably not as effective.

    W 196 R photos from my collection

An old friend of mine, Fred Pearse had the priveledge of attending several of the 1955 Grand Prix. Here are two of his photos showing the Moss car as entered in the Dutch Grand Prix on 19 June 1955. Finished second to Fangio. Oh interest are the Blue Wonder transporter and the other team trucks.
  6. Thanks, I will search for suitable stuff here in Australia as those German brands may be difficult to find here.
  7. Thanks, I had seen a jar of Vaseline in one of the vids.
  8. In his excellent videos building the W 196 R , Wayne, from Waynes World uses both oil and glue. I guess the oil is a light machine oil [ie sowing machine] but I wonder which glue would be best to apply in small quantities to hold all those plastic tubes on the many nipples. Note my jealousy, Some seem to have their kits, but I have no idea when mine will find its way down under.
  9. Royal Mail [UK] has been beset by problems, including worker strikes. However, advice in the past few days from my favourite specialist book supplier [Camden Books] is that Royal Mail has resumed taling parcels into its system.
